Kieran Cummings - Director
Founded in 2016 by its Director Kieran Cummings - Shape Urbanism draws on Kieran's 25 years experience working in urban design, masterplanning and regeneration. Kieran has a wealth of design and masterplanning experience gained within both the public and private sectors including senior roles within private practice and a number of years working as an urban design consultant to established design and architectural practices throughout the North-West.
Kieran also spent several years working overseas as an Urban Designer for Christchurch City Council in New Zealand where he was involved in a range of earthquake recovery projects including town centre and residential masterplanning, site feasibility work, design guides, urban design analysis and policy formulation, design review and public realm/townscape initiatives.
Based in Manchester, Shape Urbanism Ltd offers a range of urban design and masterplanning services with a particular expertise in the housing sector. We work at a range of scales from large urban extensions to small brownfield sites and infill development. We provide a full range of design services including masterplanning, feasibility and planning layouts, design coding and guidance, design and access statements and site promotion. We work with housebuilders, commercial agents, landowners, property developers and the public sector to deliver creative, design-led solutions grounded in context and pragmatism.
Operating nationwide, Shape Urbanism Ltd has worked on proposals for a number of major UK housebuilders including Taylor Wimpey, Miller Homes, Barratt Homes, Bloor Homes and Bovis Homes.
Joe Greenhalgh - Urban Design Consultant
Joe is an Urban Designer and Chartered Town Planner with experience across both the public and private sectors. He has worked on a wide range of built environment projects within architecture practices, large multidisciplinary and masterplanning consultancies, and public sector organisations, undertaking both design-led and project management roles.
Joe has extensive experience supporting local authorities, developers and consultant teams in the preparation of masterplans, urban design frameworks and design codes, as well as producing clear, robust material to support planning applications. Through roles in private practice and on public sector commissions, he has developed a strong understanding of how projects are shaped, coordinated and delivered, aligning design quality with programme, policy requirements and the commercial objectives of housebuilders.
Joe brings a place-led approach to Shape Urbanism Ltd, underpinned by clear and effective graphic communication. Joe takes a lead role on the production of Design Codes, Design Statements, Character Appraisals and Strategic Masterplanning with a particular focus on residential development.
